I don’t have anything specific to test their Excel accounting skills – asking them to build a 3-way model is slightly overkill at an interview stage. However, I use the attached to get a feel for whether or not they have a grasp of the basics. (Source: training material from a former employer)

My biggest gripe is with this definition of working people. By increasing Employers’ NI, you are penalising the self employed, who won’t be getting a higher day rate

Tableau is a pretty graphing tool, rather than an FP&A tool. It was a standalone product that was bought by SF a couple of years ago. It has built in connectors to a wide range of databases and applications (far more comprehensive that e.g. Power BI). The reason that its not an FP&A tool is that there is no data entry, so it is useless…

I’ve used quite a few extensively. Hard to recommend any particular one without understanding the context of the organisation. Generally the issues are with the build and implementation, rather than the application

Have you looked into apps like Spotlight or Fathom? They’ve got multi currency consolidation and forecasting features for Xero.

If you’ve outgrown Xero, you could look at something like XLedger

– % of transactions that are matched and allocated
– the ones that do not work – why not? Is it to do with the lack of info on the remittance etc?
