    Hi All

    A welcome message for any new joiners and some recommendations;

    1. Find out more about the group and its members

    Click/tap the group name and go to the group info page. There you can see details of the host, the group’s purpose, guidelines for the group, a list of members that you can search by name, job title, organisation.

    2. Find out more about a particular member / message them

    Just click/tap anyone’s photo to see their profile, see what groups you share with them, introduce them to others in your network on GENCFO, and send them a direct message (those are only visible to the two of you)

    3. Update your profile

    Click/tap on your own photo, profile, and add details including a short bio, things you’d like help with, a career highlight, and any links you want e.g. your LinkedIn profile, Twitter account, your blog/website etc.

    4. Post an introduction to yourself in the group discussion

    Don’t be shy we’re very friendly ????. Would be good to hear more about you and do ask for help on any challenges you are facing and we’ll see if the group can give you any advice or useful contacts.

    Who’s here? Introduce yourself and share one thing you’d like to give and one thing that you need from us.

    We can then really help as a community! ????

    Hi! – I’m here! I’m Lynne, I’ve been working in finance for getting on for 25 years, and I’ve always been an advocate for system & process improvement. I saw an advert for the GENCFO Digital Finance Function Awards (the ‘Gennys’!) earlier this year, put my team up for SME Finance Team of the Year, and we won, which was amazing. That’s how I got involved with GENCFO initially, but now I’ve come to see it as my ‘tribe’. I think everyone who’s here, is here because they want to communicate & collaborate with other finance professionals striving for better understanding and use of technology, to enable us to spend less time transacting & more time on business partnering and decision support. Please feel free to connect with me – let’s talk! ????

      Tried to edit my original post but I don’t have the option, so here’s my ‘give’ & ‘need’ bits!

      What I’d like to give: I’m always happy to share an opinion on anything to be honest! For most of my career I’ve been the go-to person for Excel questions, but these days I am more about encouraging people to use new, more tailored tools designed for purpose, like e.g. visualisation tools like Power BI/Looker/Tableau. To that end, I could share some of what I’ve implemented in terms of visualisation tools for financial management, for example.

      What I need: To know whether what I’m doing in the day-to-day is aligned with community consensus on best practice in any given finance discipline – reporting, reconciliation, forecasting etc… I generally land in a job and find myself making quite isolated decisions about what’s best to do, in finance ops terms. Often there’s no-one more experienced in finance tech than me there, and most of the content on LinkedIn, whilst it looks useful, is actually quite vague and generic. What are people *really* doing, in practice, that’s what I want to know. Am I way behind, way ahead, somewhere in the middle, or completely off-script?!?
